Step 3. Modify component properties to "fine tune" design layout
Click on a empty section of a “Work Area” to display label properties.
While the label is selected in “Work Area” - “Property Inspector” display label
properties. Some of label properties are read only and can be only set through Document Settings dialog (number of labels per page, label width, height,
measurement unit) while other properties alter label design.
Label properties that can be changed are:
Background Color - Background color of the label.
Show Border - If True, it will display a border around the label, if False,
there will be no border and the other border style properties will not be
Border Line Color - Defines the color of the border.
Border Line Thickness - property is used to set the width of the border.
Border Line Dash Style - property specifies what kind of border to display
(Solid, Dash, Dot, DashDot, DashDotDot)
When the specific component is selected in “Work Area” - “Property Inspector”
shows its properties. Some properties are common for all component types
(Element Size, Left Position, Top Position, Rotation) and they affect component’s
position, size and rotation on the label, while others are specific for different
Barcode Component Properties
For barcode component, following properties can be changed:
Database Column - Dynamic data - barcode value is read from the
database. List of available columns is displayed if database connection is
established. For this option see more details in Database Connections.
Barcode Value - Static data - static value used to generate barcode.
- Barcode Type - barcode symbology
Currently supported symbologies are: Code 39, Code 93, Codabar,
Interleaved 2 of 5, Code 128, UPCE, UPCA (with Add On 2 and 5), EAN8,
EAN13 (with Add On 2 and 5), ISBN10 (with Add On 2 and 5), ISBN13 (with
Add On 2 and 5).
Font - font used for human readable part of barcode (barcode label - above
and/or bellow barcode stripes)
Background Color - color of barcode background
Background Transparency - background transparency expressed in
percents. If you choose 100 then background is fully transparent and
Background Color doesn’t affect barcode background appearance at all.
Show Label - If True, it will display a label bellow barcode.
Show Label Above Barcode - If True, it will display a label above barcode.
Adjust Barcode Size - with this property you can opt for letting the Designer
choose which would be the most appropriate barcode width according to
barcode component size. By stretching or shrinking the component you will
get barcode itself be stretched or shrunk. If you choose for this property to be
false then you need to specify either Magnification or XDimension for
Magnification - every symbology has a range of allowed values for this
property (e.g. for EAN13 it is between 80% and 200%). By setting this value
you will influence barcode width and directly affect another property -
XDimension, which will be calculated for this specific magnification.
XDimension - the X dimension is the width of the narrowest element (bar or
space) in a barcode. By setting this property you influence width of barcode,
and directly affect another property - Magnification, which will be calculated
for this specific XDimension. Every symbology has range of allowed values
for this property (e.g. for EAN13 it is 0.26mm - 0.66mm; and it is 0.33mm for
Font Size Proportional - this property is used to specify should the
“Designer” calculate barcode label font size according to the barcode width. If
you choose false for this property then font size chosen in Font property will
be applied to barcode label.
Foreground Color - barcode stripes and label color
Text Component Properties
For text component you can change following properties:
Database Column - Dynamic value - text value is read from the database.
List of available columns is displayed if database connection is established.
For this option see more details in Database Connections.
Text - Static value - text to be displayed
Transparency % - text color transparency
Stretch Text - is text going to be stretched inside component boundaries
Horizontal Alignment - is text going to be aligned to left or right component
edge or horizontally centered
Vertical Alignment - is text going to be aligned to top or bottom component
edge or vertically centered
Font Color - text color
Font - text font
Transparent Background - is text background fully transparent
Text Background Color - text background color
Image Component Properties
There are just three properties specific for image component:
Geometry Shapes Properties
These properties are pretty self explanatory so we’re not going to delve into it here.
You should just try and play a bit with them.
